Kellyanne Conway has filed for divorce from her husband of 22 years, George, because she views his criticism of Donald Trump as a betrayal.
Page Six reports that the well-publicized political polar opposites had split up after years of rumours about whether or not they ever liked each other. George has been a vocal opponent of President Trump and has even made fun of the president on Twitter, even though Trump has employed George's wife.
Kellyanne and George tied the knot in 2001 and have since welcomed four children: Claudia, Vanessa, Charlotte, and George.
According to Page Six, the couple has retained legal counsel and has begun the process of dividing their assets in preparation for their divorce.
As Trump's campaign manager in 2016, 56-year-old Kellyanne became one of the president's advisors. Her husband, who helped start the Lincoln Project to stop Trump from being re-elected, was constantly criticising the president online while she tirelessly worked for him.
Divorce doesn't seem to have dampened his dislike of the former leader; he was very vocal in his condemnation of him on Twitter on Friday, including sharing a comment that questioned the president's sanity.
Here's The Deal, Kellyanne's memoir from 2022, discusses the couple's political differences and how she perceived her husband's criticism as an act of infidelity. She called his remarks "cheating," and it came out that Ivanka Trump had advised the two go to counselling. George had been dubbed a "stone cold LOSER" and a "spouse from hell" by Trump himself.
Yet again, the family's reputation took a hit in 2020 when Claudia, then a teenager, publicly denounced her mother and Trump. The day after the 15-year-old tweeted that she was "formally working for emancipation" from her parents, Kellyanne revealed that she was leaving the White House. Kellyanne claimed she was leaving to be "less drama, more mama" for her children.
Claudia Conway, however, took to TikTok shortly after the news to claim that her parents had called off the divorce "to keep her from getting emancipated." She claimed her mother had been physically abusive against her throughout her childhood and that her father, George, did not know her middle name.
George also resigned from his position on the Lincoln Project and temporarily left Twitter to spend more time with his family. Kellyanne released a statement at the time, in which she described her experience in the Trump administration as "heady" and "humbling," and explained that she and George were leaving to do what they believed was best for their four children.
She claimed that she and her husband had many differences of opinion, but that they were all in agreement when it came to the children. In 2020, Claudia (pictured) tarnished the family's reputation when she harshly criticised her mother and Trump, prompting both of her parents to leave their careers to focus on Claudia and the rest of the family.
Our four children, now in their late teens and early twenties, will be starting a new school year in middle school and high school where they will be doing most of their work online. Millions of parents around the country have found that having their children "do school from home" calls for a degree of care and attentiveness that is "as odd as these times."
Conway continued: 'This is absolutely my choice and my voice. Plans for the future will be shared in due time. For the time being, and the sake of my cherished children, there will be less drama and more mama. Months later, Claudia released a TikTok in which she openly accused her mother of hiding her mother's positive COVID-19 diagnosis and said that Trump is worse than he pretends to be.
Claudia posted to the site to "clarify" her assertion that the Donald Trump advisor had "lied" about her test result on Friday; however, the two clashed in the video, with Kellyanne accusing her daughter of "lying about your f**king mother."
